FOHM-funded programs

Milk & Cookies Before and After-School enrichment program is available for no charge to all Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy students from grades K-5. Nearly all of the students participate. Students are offered homework support, free play, special assistance, yoga classes, sports, and clubs in Dance, Visual Arts, Martial Arts, Science, and other fun subjects.

Positions we fund:

All of the Afterschool Staff
Civil Rights Coordinator

Staff positions cut from the district budget that we fund:

Student Advisor
Parent Liaison
Literacy paraprofessional
We also employ, with funds from the school’s Parent Faculty Club, full-day kindergarten aides, first-grade literacy support, and the school’s independent art committee.

Our donors give anywhere from $10 to $10,000:

$20 buys a set of markers for kindergarteners who are learning to write.
$60 buys healthy fruit for afterschool for 1 day.
$100 buys a large modern updated map of the world for a classroom wall.
$350 buys oneĀ sturdy bookshelf and organizing center for a 1st grade classroom.
$850 buys a Woolly Pocket wall garden for our play yard.
$3,000 sends everyone on science field trips.
$6,000 provides weekly art class for every single classroom for 10 weeks.
